Shadow Complex
Orson Scott Card is writing a new pair of books, Empire (2006) and Hidden Empire (tba), and has decided to use a video game to bridge the two stories. Shadow Complex (XLBA) is a 2.5D game, meaning that while the environment is fully 3D, the player can only move in two dimensions, simulating the environment of a classic side-scrolling video game. So far reviews have been positive, and Shadow Complex is, in the words of its creators, a spiritual successor to Super Metroid, so it already has many nostalgic gamers swooning. Remember though, that while he is the author of one of my favorite books of all time (Ender’s Game), Orson Scott Card is also responsible for writing 2005’s sub-par Advent Rising. However, If the game plays as well as this trailer looks I’m sure it will do fine.
Here’s the trailer for your viewing pleasure.
