For years, Star Trek fans have considered the movie franchise to be “cursed,” with the odd-numbered movies being much, much worse than the even-numbered ones. This week’s big DVD release, simply titled Star Trek, has effectively broken this curse. J.J. Abrams re-imagining of the classic Trek universe takes some really big chances in updating Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the crew, and it absolutely pays off. Also, keep an eye out for a special cameo by a certain 3-wheeled droid.

Farscape: The Complete Series

Are you a fan of science fiction and Jim Henson’s awesomeness? Then you gotta check out Farscape. Borrowing liberally from Buck Rogers, Babylon 5 and Star Trek, Farscape follows the story of John Crichton, an astronaut who gets shoved through a wormhole, and the aliens he allies himself while trying to find his way back home. This DVD set comes with all four seasons of the show and of course a ton of extras. The individual seasons are available separately as well.
