You Should Buy This-Green Lantern Edition

Following in the footsteps of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern is getting his own animated movie. Green Lantern: First Flight tells the origin story of Hal Jordan, arguably the most famous of the Green Lantern Corps. With the Blackest Night summer event coming up, DC couldn’t have timed the release of this DVD any better. Go pick this up, and I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Alan Moore’s Gonna Eat Somebody

Miracleman

Marvel has just announced something I never would’ve imagined happening: they’ve purchased the rights to Marvelman Miracleman. For those of you not familiar with the story, MarvelMan was the British answer to DC Comics’ Captain Marvel. He was originally created in the 50’s by Mick Anglo, but wouldn’t become widely known till the early 80’s, when Alan Moore took the helm in a dark revival of the series. Moore’s MarvelMan Miracleman was a radically different take on the hero than had been previously told, and it actually predates Mr. Moore’s amazing Watchmen by a few years. In the midst of this re-imagining, Marvel sued the publisher for using the Marvel trademark, and this lead to the character being renamed to MiracleMan.

I say all this to say, wow, I really can’t believe that Marvel pulled this off. I really hope they use this opportunity to reprint the breathtaking Alan Moore/Neil Gaiman run of this series, instead of trying to shoehorn Marvelman into the current main marvel universe. I have a feeling if they do that, Alan Moore will appear late one night to eat Joe Quesada’s soul.

Tron Legacy: First Look

Here’s the “not-quite-official” Trailer for the newly renamed Tron: Legacy. Not the most orignal title, but WWWAAAAAAYYYYY preferable to Tr2n, which really just seemed like the result of asking a 13-year old girl what to call the movie. The best part is that both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner are involved in the the film. Hey Disney, for the sake of all that is holy, don’t screw this up!

Official Trailer Update – So sometime today, the official trailer was uploaded, in all it’s eye-melting HD glory. Check it out here.

WOW…..literally.

So here is a first look at who will put together the first World of Warcraft movie.  There is definitely a history of games-turned-movies not doing so well.  It seems that the creators over at Blizzard are thinking that adding some “nerd-cred”(Smith, Mike) in the form of Sam Raimi will add to the clout of the movie.  I hope they are right.  There have been many game/cartoon movies that have flopped, such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, & Tomb Raider.  The latter may have one of the hottest women in the world in it, but that alone does not attribute to success.  I hope for all intents and purposes the posse of people who worked on the Dark Knight will be able to add that certain flair that elevates the standards of game-turned-movies to come.

Sam Raimi
